About Katie Luman, LPC- Codependency and ACOA Therapist

In 2015 I earned a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I spent five years working in a residential treatment facility for drug, alcohol, and sexual addiction before moving to full-time private practice in 2021 as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Therapy with me offers a space where you will experience genuine empathy, thoughtful insight, and meaningful support. In our work together, you’ll have a safe, confidential place to explore your thoughts, emotions, and relationship patterns at your own pace. As a therapist in Marietta, GA, I specialize in helping adults navigate codependency, people-pleasing, and the lasting impact of growing up in complex family systems. During the first 2–3 sessions, I focus on gaining a deeper understanding of your life, relationships, and personal history so we can begin to identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck. From there, we collaborate on a personalized therapy approach—often incorporating Internal Family Systems (IFS), Psychodynamic, and Person-Centered Therapy—to help you move toward greater clarity, emotional balance, and lasting peace of mind.

Primary Treatment Approaches:

Psychodynamic Therapy - This means that therapy will begin by me really getting to know you. We’ll take a look at how past relationships and life events have contributed to who you are today. We all develop patterns in our relationships and these patterns usually offer a wealth of information that together, can be used to empower you towards knowing yourself better and developing confidence and skill in your relationships and choices for the future.

Person-Centered Therapy- This means that I approach you with a great amount of empathy and without judgement. You are the expert on your life and I’m honored to be invited into your space to help you discover new insights, resources, and strength for your current circumstances. As I get to know you I’ll have observations and insights to share while helping you develop new skills along the way.

Internal Family Systems Therapy- (IFS) therapy is a compassionate, evidence-based approach I use in my practice in Marietta, GA to help individuals better understand their inner world. IFS therapy explores the different “parts” of you—like the ones that strive, protect, criticize, or carry past wounds—and helps you relate to them with curiosity and self-compassion rather than judgment. As an IFS therapist, I guide clients in gently understanding these parts so that deeper healing can occur. This work can be especially helpful for those struggling with codependency, people-pleasing, or the effects of growing up in a challenging family system. Through Internal Family Systems therapy, many clients feel more grounded, balanced, and connected to their true self.
